CA must pick on form over reputation for India tour

With the upcoming India Test and ODI series’ fast approaching and with particular reference to the ODI series, form must be considered well ahead of reputation in coming selections if the team is to perform to their potential.

Case in point, the Melbourne Stars are littered with talent, yet did so little relying on reputation finishing dead last.

The so-called regular international crop of Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa contributed poorly all BBL season.

Questions must be raised over their poor performances and lack of commitment to the franchise as reputation can only go so far when your individual performance and the teams performance is so bad.

Given the upcoming tour to India consists of both Test and ODI formats, the Test series team is the only given, considering their success over both South Africa and the West Indies.

The make up of the ODI team is much less guaranteed particularly with the retirement of Aaron Finch, the ageing of personnel like Matt Wade and David Warner.

Surely now is the time to look to the form talent from the BBL players who can perform on the big stage and rightly deserve a spot in the national ODI team.

Players from both the Scorchers and Sixers who dominated the current season, top of the ODI pile alongside with the likes of in form Alex Carey, Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Starc and Pat Cummins.

Cam Bancroft, Josh Inglis, Ash Turner, Andrew Tye from the Scorchers, Jordan Silk, Josh Phillipee, Moises Henriques, Ben Dwarshuis from the Sixers rightly deserve spots on the ODI team to tour India.

Surely bolstering both batting and bowling stocks and giving the big three in Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins a break must be a priority.

Form and commitment must be above any notions of reputation and players who have performed well must be rewarded for the future success of Australian cricket.

This not only creates new interest to form a broader audience but surely a more diverse range of sponsorship Australia wide.
