Inglis leaves Australian camp to get some reps, in contention for third Test

Josh Inglis has been released from Australia’s Test squad to get some valuable red-ball cricket with Western Australia.

Inglis travelled from Adelaide to Sydney on Thursday night, allowing him to play in Friday’s Sheffield Shield match against NSW at the SCG.

Australia’s reserve batsman can be recalled to the Test squad if required and can also be sent back to Adelaide in the event of a concussion substitute.

Inglis had been picked in Australia’s squad for the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having been with the squad in both Perth and Adelaide.

He also featured in Australia’s limited-overs matches against Pakistan, meaning he has not played a red-ball match since October 23 for Western Australia.

Inglis is likely to get a chance with the bat on day one for Western Australia against NSW, with the visitors slumping to 3-57 before lunch on Friday.

NSW allrounder Jack Edwards had claimed all three wickets.

This Sheffield Shield round is the last until February, with players to enter BBL camps shortly.

There is every chance Inglis could be in the conversation for a Test debut next week in Brisbane, if Australia’s batting struggles again against India.

Selectors had resisted the urge for any changes to the top order in Adelaide, but pressure will continue to mount if they slump to a 2-0 series deficit.
