CA’s 43-year first as Brisbane loses opening Ashes Test, day-nighter moved from Adelaide

Cricket Australia has announced the Test venues and dates for the 2025-26 Ashes series, going out early in anticipation of a huge influx of tourists for the series.

The series will start at Perth Stadium from November 21-25, 2025. The following Test matches are a day-night match in Brisbane (December 4-8), Adelaide Oval (December 17-21), Melbourne (December 26-30) and Sydney January 4-8.

It will be the first time Brisbane has not hosted the opening match of an Ashes series since 1982-83 when it was hosted by Perth.

Adelaide has been the main home of the day-night Test since the first one in 2015 and has hosted the two previous Ashes day-night Tests in 2017-18 and 2021-22 as the second Test in the rotation in those Ashes series following the traditional Gabba opener.

Perth has hosted the opening Test of summer for the past two years.

“There is already enormous excitement surrounding the 2025-26 NRMA Insurance Ashes series and we are pleased to announce the dates for the five Men’s Tests to enable fans across the world to lock in their travel plans,” said CA Executive General Manager, Events and Operations Joel Morrison in a statement.

“Beginning with the West Test at Perth Stadium, the 2025-26 Ashes dates align with our recently released seven-year international schedule and we are grateful for the support state and territory governments are providing to enhance and grow our major events.

“The history and excitement of the Ashes make it one of world’s most iconic sporting events and we are delighted this fierce and electrifying rivalry will extend over two summers in 2025 – commencing with CommBank Women’s Ashes this summer, which includes the historic MCG day-night Test, and culminates in the Men’s Ashes next summer.

“We have been inundated with requests from fans around the world wanting to travel to Australia and attend the 2025-26 Ashes series and we urge everyone to register with the Australian Cricket Family for priority access to tickets or visit the CA Travel Office to book in their travel.”
